The Laurisilva Forest of Madeira Island is the largest surviving  laurel forest in the world, and was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List of natural sites in 1999. The Grupo do Risco was invited by the local municipalities to produce a book to help increase public awareness of the natural values of this protected site.
